Anna Kendrick charms audiences in every movie she’s in from comedies to drama to musicals.
On April 5, she will be hosting Saturday Night Live for the very first time.
Here’s all you need to know about the 28-year-old who took a bus from her home in Maine to New York at age 10 to pursue her acting dream.
1. She Was the Second Youngest to Ever Be Nominated for a Tony
She got her first Tony Award nomination at 12 years old for the role of Dinah in the Broadway musical High Society.
Entertainment Weekly interviewed her about her role in a new on-screen musical, The Last Five Years.
When asked if she would ever return to her Broadway roots, she said:
At this point, it’s so terrifying. I know that I shouldn’t admit this, but it’s not like it’s some big secret — I just could not sing The Last Five Years eight times a week
2. She Got Dating Advice From George Clooney
They shared the screen in 2009’s Up in the Air. Clooney was protective of the young star, and even put an age limit on the men she could date.
George, at one point, set an age limit on boys I was allowed to date. It was something really random. But age [doesn't] matter to me and he’s not actually my dad, so he can’t tell me what to do.
Kendrick told Vulture what it was like to work with the actor.
Yeah, but he kind of goes out of his way to make you feel comfortable, and make you feel like you’re allowed to give him shit offscreen which means you can certainly make fun of him onscreen.
3. She Sings ‘Cups’
The song reached number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It was featured on the soundtrack for Pitch Perfect, which Kendrick also starred in.
When asked about what she thought about her song’s success, she told Vulture,
“I am bewildered. I don’t even know what to say about it. The weirdest thing to me is that it’s outpositioned artists who are out there promoting their singles, as they should be — they’re musicians!”
4. She Plays Kristen Stewart’s Friend in ‘Twilight’
In the popular saga, she plays Jessica Stanley.
She actually told MTV that during the audition, she was ill:
I wish there was like a great story behind it, but it was a straight-up audition situation. They actually brought me in for a mix-and-match [with various actors]. I was so sick that they asked me to stay, and I literally told them I couldn’t because I just felt so ill and I had to go home.
She told Ask Men about how she manages to avoid to spotlight since starring in the films:
It’s a phenomenon that cannot be accounted for. It’s really exciting. The thing about my involvement is that I get to have my cake and eat it too. I get to be a part of the [Twilight] franchise and go on the ride when I feel like it. And I still have my real life. I can walk around and people don’t speculate about my private life.
