Eugenio Suárez: Breaking News

Suarez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 5-4 loss to the Padres. Suarez extended the Reds' lead to 4-2 in the eighth inning with his solo shot off Ron Marinaccio, his fifth long ball this year and just his second in his last 24 games. Suarez has gone 3-for-9 with a pair of extra-base hits in his last two contests after going just 3-for-36 (.083) in his previous 10 games. Overall, the veteran is slashing .211/.282/.354 with 18 RBI and 14 runs scored across 163 plate appearances this season.

Suarez is out of the Reds' starting lineup for Sunday's matchup versus St. Louis. Suarez is batting .094 (3-for-32) with 14 strikeouts over his past nine games, so he'll get a chance to reset Sunday. Nathaniel Lowe is getting a day off his feet as the DH, and Spencer Steer is sliding over to first base after starting each of Cincinnati's past three games at the keystone. Meanwhile, Sal Stewart is playing third base following a run of starts at first.

Suarez went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI in Sunday's 6-4 win over Atlanta. Suarez drove in a run on a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning before launching a solo shot in the seventh. It was his first homer since returning from the injured list May 23, as he entered the contest mired in a 4-for-22 slump over seven games during that span. For the year, the slugger is slashing .224/.300/.371 with four long balls, 15 RBI and 13 runs scored across just 130 plate appearances.
