Suarez (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment Wednesday, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports. Suarez's recovery from a left oblique strain has come along more slowly than anticipated, but he's finally progressed to the point of being cleared to play in games. The veteran slugger has been sidelined for nearly a month, so he will likely need a handful of rehab contests before rejoining the Reds' active roster.

Suarez (oblique) took batting practice on the field Friday, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports. It appears to be the first time he's taken BP on the field since suffering a left oblique strain in late April. Suarez had been scheduled to undergo an MRI on Thursday to check the healing of the injury, and he must have received good news. It's likely Suarez will need some rehab games before returning to the Reds' active roster, and it shouldn't be long before he's cleared for the former now that he's hitting on the field again.

Suarez (oblique) will resume hitting Tuesday and is set for an MRI Thursday to check the progress of his healing, Charlie Clifford of NBC 5 Cincinnati reports. If the Reds like what they see with Suarez's imaging later this week, he will travel with the team on its upcoming road trip and continue to ramp up his activities. A rehab assignment should come shortly after that if all goes well. Suarez has been sidelined since late April with a left oblique strain, but he should be able to make it back before the end of May if he remains free of setbacks.
