Jeffrey Springs: Everything you need to know

Springs (3-1) took the loss Sunday, allowing seven runs on nine hits and a walk over five innings in a 7-4 loss against the White Sox. He struck out seven. Springs' hot start came to a halt, as the White Sox tagged the southpaw for seven runs, fueled by four homers, in his first loss of the season. Despite the poor run prevention, the 33-year-old generated 14 whiffs and matched a season high with seven strikeouts Sunday. Through five starts, Springs owns a 3.34 ERA and 0.98 WHIP with a 27:9 K:BB across 29.2 innings.

Springs (3-0) earned the win over Texas on Tuesday, allowing one run on three hits and two walks while striking out five batters over 6.1 innings. Springs gave up a run in the first inning but shut down the Rangers after that, allowing just one hit (a single) and one walk along with zero runs following that initial frame. The lefty recorded his third straight quality start, all of which have resulted in victories. Springs has been one of MLB's best hurlers in the early portion of the season, posting a 1.46 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 20:8 K:BB over 24.2 frames though his first four starts. He's shown some flashes of excellence in prior campaigns -- especially in 2022, when he put up a 2.46 ERA across 135.1 regular-season innings with the Rays -- so fantasy managers have reason to hope that Springs can maintain this groove, though he's unlikely to be quite this good for the remainder of the season.

Springs (2-0) picked up the win Thursday against the Yankees, allowing just one hit and two walks with six strikeouts across seven shutout innings. On a getaway day, neither offense seemed interested in scoring, as the Athletics scratched out one run on seven hits in eight innings against Ryan Weathers on the opposite side. Springs had everything working Thursday, as his fastball, slider and changeup kept the Yankees off balance. Springs now has a microscopic 1.47 ERA and 15:6 K:BB across his first 18.1 innings this season. He's slated to face the Rangers at home Tuesday.
