Luis Severino: Everything you need to know

Severino (2-2) allowed one run on four hits and two walks while striking out eight over seven innings to earn the win over the Royals on Wednesday. Severino was locked in, throwing 71 of 103 pitches for strikes. He gave up a run in the first inning, but he was sharp after that. He started the year with mixed results, but he's allowed just two runs over his last 13.2 innings, winning each of his last two starts. For the season, Severino has a 4.46 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 40:23 K:BB through 38.1 innings over seven starts. The 32-year-old's next outing is projected to be at Philadelphia.

Severino (1-2) earned the win Friday against the Rangers, allowing one run on six hits and one walk across 6.2 innings. He struck out five. It was the best performance of the young season for Severino, who gave up fewer than two runs and issued fewer than three walks in a start for the first time this season. The veteran right-hander will likely need to continue to keep the walks down to have a chance of improving on the 4.54 ERA and 1.30 WHIP he posted in 2025. As it stands, Severino has a 5.17 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 32:21 K:BB through six starts this year.

Severino didn't factor into the decision Saturday against the White Sox, allowing five runs on five hits and four walks with three strikeouts across 5.1 innings. Severino;'s blow-up inning was the second, as he allowed a leadoff homer to Colson Montgomery before Andrew Benintendi capped the five-run frame with a three-run shot. Otherwise, Severino was effective Saturday, and the Athletics were able to erase the 5-0 deficit to get Severino off the hook. Severino's first three starts of the season came on the road, where he allowed eight runs over 13.1 innings. In two home starts against the Rangers and White Sox, the right-hander has surrendered nine runs across 11.1 innings. Severino owns a 6.20 ERA and 28:20 K:BB across 24.2 frames. He's in line to face the Rangers on the road in his next start.
