The Angels designated Lugo for assignment Wednesday. The transaction clears space on the 40-man roster for the addition of Nick Madrigal. Lugo has spent most of this season at Double-A Rocket City, slashing .258/.382/.406 with three home runs, 11 steals and a 23:40 BB:K over 39 games. He just turned 25 and was once a prospect of some note, so Lugo could draw interest via waivers.
Lugo was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday. Lugo will head to the Triple-A level after batting .091 with a double, an RBI, and four strikeouts over 11 at-bats in five contests during spring training. The outfielder produced a .232 average with four home runs, nine RBI and nine runs scored over 69 at-bats in 31 contests with the Angels last season. He'll look to impress with Salt Lake in an attempt to get another crack with the major-league roster in 2026.
The Angels optioned Lugo to Triple-A Salt Lake on Saturday. Lugo had been struggling to garner playing time, starting in just one of the Angels' previous seven contests prior to being sent down. He's posted a .707 OPS with four homers, nine RBI and nine runs over 70 plate appearances in the majors this season but has a 0:24 BB:K. Lugo's return to the minors made room for infielder Christian Moore to rejoin the 26-man roster.
