Zachary Gelof: Breaking News

Gelof went 2-for-5 with a home run, a triple, three total RBI and two total runs against the Phillies in a 12-1 win Thursday. Gelof didn't reach in either of his first two plate appearances, but he smacked a run-scoring triple in the fifth inning and followed that with a two-run homer in the seventh. The 26-year-old started for the seventh time in the A's past eight games, and he's delivered a .321 batting average with two home runs, six RBI, six runs and a stolen base during that span. Gelof has gotten starts at second base and third base as well as in center field, and he may be playing his way into a permanent roster spot even after Max Muncy (hand) and Denzel Clarke (foot) return from the injured list.

Gelof went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, an additional run scored and a walk in Sunday's 7-1 victory over the Guardians. Gelof jumped on a Parker Messick slider, crushing a 429-foot homer in the fifth inning to give the Athletics a lead they wouldn't relinquish. With Denzel Clarke (foot) injured, Gelof has seen opportunities in center field against left-handed pitching and has shown flashes of productivity, driving in three runs across two starts in the series against the Guardians. Overall, the 26-year-old is hitting .250/.286/.425 with two homers, a double, seven RBI, eight runs and two stolen bases across 44 plate appearances in 2026.

Gelof went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and an additional run scored in Friday's 8-1 victory over the Rangers. The 26-year-old picked up a fourth start in five games with Denzel Clarke (foot) on the injured list and finally got his bat going Friday, clubbing a two-run home run in the ninth inning to close out the scoring. Gelof may continue to get regular playing time in the short term with Clarke on the shelf, but he isn't likely to generate much fantasy upside given his lack of success at the MLB level (.174/.230/.272 slash line over 30 contests last season) since posting an .841 OPS in 69 games as a rookie in 2023.
