Nevada Commission Approves Monitors For UFC 130

Judges monitors approved for UFC

The Nevada State Athletic Commission today approved the use of judges monitors for the upcoming Ultimate Fighting Championship event, UFC 130. The commission also approved the use of this tool for all future events held by the promotion.

MMAjunkie.com reported the news earlier today following the meeting.

The event takes place on May 28 in Las Vegas, Nevada and features a light heavyweight bout between Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Matt Hamill. The fight took the place of the final fight of the Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard bout that was scratched after both competitors suffered injuries.

The approval, which happened in an NSAC meeting earlier today, gives judges extra help while scoring fights cageside, as seven-inch monitors will allow a closer look at the action going on in the cage. UFC 131 and UFC 133 also will feature these monitors when the promotion heads back to Canada in mid-June.

As of this date, only three UFC events have utilized judges monitors. Today’s approval displays the steps being taken to better judging in a sport prone to controversial decisions.
