DraftKings Fantasy Baseball: $300K Contest Set for May 20

When the final pitch is thrown in Wednesday night’s Major League Baseball action, Heavy’s partners at DraftKings will make somebody $100,000 richer with a special $300K contest set to go live on May 20. And for just $3, you can throw your hat in the ring for that life-altering $100K as well as other big cash prizes.

Sign up for DraftKings’ MLB $300,000 Swing for the Fences contest for a chance to win $100K.

For just a $3 buy-in, you have a shot to pocket the top prize of $100,000. Second place gets $10,000 and third takes home $5,000. The top 100 finishers will receive at least $100. Nearly 29,000 entered teams will be paid.

As a first-time user with DraftKings, when you sign up and are prompted for a DraftKings promo code, use “HEAVY.”

The contest gets underway at 7:05 p.m. Eastern so it does not include players from MLB’s Wednesday afternoon schedule.

The rules are simple: You get a $50,000 salary cap to spend on 10 players – 2 pitchers, 1 catcher, 1 first baseman, 1 second baseman, 1 shortstop, 1 third baseman and 3 outfielders. The better your selected players do, the better your fantasy team does.

Also for first-time players, when you sign up you get a 100 percent deposit bonus up to $600. You put in $600, DraftKings will match your $600.

As for who you want in your lineup, Wednesday’s pitching selection isn’t exactly filled with a collection of aces. Padres starter Tyson Ross is the most expensive option at $9,000. That’s somewhat pricey for a guy with just 2 wins and an ERA approaching 4. To boot, he’s got a 5.06 ERA at home, where he meets the Cubs. Too many reasons not to pick Ross.

One of my 2 pitching slots is definitely going to Orioles starter Wei-Yin Chen, who has been fantastic despite his 1 win. His price is right ($7K) and no Mariners regular (his opponent) is hitting over .240 against him.

You should get excited about your hitting lineup as there are a number of struggling pitchers to take advantage of. Among those needed to be exploited are: Jeff Locke of the Pirates (5.40 ERA vs. the Twins), Drew Hutchison of the Blue Jays (6.17 ERA vs. the Angels), Kyle Lohse of the Brewers (5.85 ERA at the Tigers), Shane Greene of the Tigers (4.21 ERA vs. the Brewers), Jason Marquis of the Reds (6.63 ERA at the Royals), Jeremy Guthrie of the Royals (5.44 ERA vs. the Reds) and Severino Gonzalez of the Phillies (10.57 ERA at the Rockies).

Among the hitters you should target who have favorable matchups and price tags: Royals 1B Kendrys Morales ($4,100), Reds 2B Brandon Phillips ($3,900), Reds 3B Todd Frazier ($4,900), Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez ($4,600) and maybe even splurge on Angels OF Mike Trout and Nationals OF Bryce Harper (both $5,700).

Here’s my lineup for the night:
