Rousey vs. Holm Result

Holly Holm is your new UFC bantamweight champion. Seriously.

Those who thought Holm’s boxing pedigree would help her be effective against Rousey were exactly right. She tagged Rousey several times in the first round and likely became the first fighter to ever win a round against the champ:

And she far, far, far outdid herself in the second round. Early in the round, she obliterated Rousey with a head kick and followed it up with punches, forcing the referee to end the fight. You can see video of one of the most unbelievable upsets in UFC history above.

It was a perfect performance from Holm, who was a massive underdog, and it was an ending you’re going to be hearing about for a very long time:

ESPN Stats & Info put Holm’s dominant performance against a previously untouchable opponent into perspective:

Rousey vs. Holm Preview

The first six title defenses have gone just about as swimmingly as physically possible for Rousey. She has won all six in impressive fashion (all by stoppage, with only Miesha Tate escaping the first round), becoming one of the most popular and influential athletes in the world in the process.

Holm, a former world champion boxer with two successful UFC fights under belt, has the type of skill set to at least give Rousey a brand-new challenge:

Rousey has shown over the last couple of fights that she has no problem winning a fight standing up, but she has yet fight someone with the kind of boxing and striking pedigree that Holm presents. If the challenger, who hasn’t been taken down in her first two UFC battles, can keep the fight upright, she should be able to last longer than most of Rousey’s opponents.

And against Rousey, that would be considered a success.
