The hiring of Gary Neville as manager hasn’t changed Valenica’s fortunes this season. The team is still looking for their first league win under Neville, and it won’t come easy today against Real Madrid.
After Saturday’s draw between Barcelona and Espanyol, today’s game has added significance for Madrid. Any chance to gain points on Barca should not be taken lightly, and Madrid can draw even with Barca at 39 points with a win and the Mestalla today.
Madrid manager Rafael Benitez should receive a warm welcome at Valencia today, but a poor result could be his undoing. Benitez won two league titles and a UEFA Cup with Valencia, but his future with Madrid has been in jeopardy all season. Another lackluster performance from Madrid could see Benitez coach his last game for Madrid in front of his former team.
