In a matchup reminiscent of past horse racing eras, this year’s Florida Derby gives fans a look at the two Kentucky Derby favorites with a little over a month remaining before the race. The Florida Derby is slated to start at 6:48 p.m. Eastern.

Date: Saturday, April 2, 2016

Time: 6:48 p.m. Eastern

Location: Gulfstream Park, Hallandale Beach, Florida

TV Channel: TVG will have live coverage of the race. It is channel 602 for DirecTV subscribers.

Live Stream: Gulfstream Park is offering a live stream of the race.

Race Preview: It is a matchup being billed as East vs. West as Mohaymen takes on Nyquist. Mohaymen has the advantage of racing at his home track near his Florida training grounds. Nyquist has traveled from Santa Anita, California for the race in hopes of winning the $1 million bonus.

It is a rare preview of the two favorites to win the Kentucky Derby in advance of the race. Typically, horse racing fans have to wait until May to see the favorites square off. The winner of the Florida Derby will be the favorite to win in Kentucky.
