Make it 22 straight for the man called ‘Triple G.’
Gennady Golovkin successfully defended his middleweight titles Saturday night, knocking down Dominic Wade three times in the first two rounds.
Wade entered tonight’s fight undefeated, but the 26-year old has never faced a fighter of Golovkin’s quality. GGG went to work early, and an overhand right knocked Wade off balance in the first round, knocking him down.
Golovkin kept up the pressure in the second round, knocking Wade down with one minute left in the second round. Wade landed a few punches in the round, but was mostly on the receiving end. Wade went down for good just 30 seconds later. Check out the power in the knockout punch:
It’s another notch for Golovkin, who made quick work of Wade. What remains to be seen is a challenger that can really push GGG, a fighter who has never gone the distance in his professional career. Golovkin didn’t have to work much tonight, but it won’t be the same against a fighter like Canelo Alvarez.
Until then, Golovkin will continue to knock out whoever is in front of him, stating his case for the planet’s best pound-for-pound fighter.
