New WWE Women’s Champion Sasha Banks has received her custom side plates.
Banks posted a photo on Instagram showing off the new look of the Women’s Championship belt, whose plates now feature her “legit boss” logo.
Sasha Banks was awarded the Women’s Championship after she defeated Charlotte on the first post-draft episode of Monday Night Raw. This came as a surprise to many, who assumed a title change would be saved for the upcoming SummerSlam pay-per-view.
However, Vince McMahon reportedly felt that Charlotte’s lengthy reign as champion had helped to legitimize the title, and now he is more comfortable having it change hands. He also wanted to open the first episode of the new era with a big surprise, and Sasha Banks finally achieving her dream certainly qualifies. Triple H is also said to be a huge fan of Banks.
Banks will defend her title against Charlotte at SummerSlam 2016.
It wasn’t always the plan to have Sasha Banks win the title when she did, though. According to Cageside Seats, the original plan was to have her defeat Charlotte at WrestleMania 32. That was back when the Wrestlemania match was going to just be between Banks and Charlotte, but when Becky Lynch was added into the mix, things changed changed. The plan was then shifted so that Banks would win at SummerSlam, but in order to signal the start of a new era, the victory came early.
24-year-old Sasha Banks, whose real name is Mercedes Ton, grew up watching wrestling and always dreamed of being a champion herself. She started training at Chaotic Wrestling in 2010 and two years later, she participated in a 2012 WWE tryout camp. In August 2012, she signed a contract with World Wrestling Entertainment and began working with the NXT program.
