The Texas Longhorns were unable to find their way into the College Football Playoff last season. Led by Arch Manning, the team was unable to live up to the preseason hype that surrounded the program.
Heading into the 2025 campaign, Manning was being talked about as one of the best quarterbacks in the nation. He was a preseason favorite to end up winning the coveted Heisman Trophy. That didn’t end up being the season he had.
Manning struggled early on in the year. By the end of the season, he had picked up his pace, but the overall season was a disappointment.
Despite the disappointing 2025 season, Manning expected to take a big leap forward in 2026. However, Texas announced some major news about the young quarterback on Friday morning.
Texas Longhorns Reveal Major Arch Manning Announcement
On Friday, it was revealed by the team that Manning has undergone surgery on his foot. That news was shared by CBS Sports college football insider Chris Hummer.
“Texas announced that Arch Manning underwent a ‘minor foot surgery’ this week that will limit him in off-season workouts. It was to address a previous injury,” Hummer wrote on X. “He is, however, expected to be back for spring practice.”
Obviously, the young quarterback missing time during the offseason is not ideal. Manning will need to put in a much work as possible to take the leap he’s targeting next season.
That being said, this is far from a worst-case scenario. He’ll be back for spring ball barring any kind of a setback.
During the 2025 season with the Longhorns, Manning ended up completing 61.4 percent of his pass attempts for 3,163 yards, 26 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He also picked up 399 yards and scored 10 more touchdowns on the ground.
For a down season, those numbers are through the roof. That shows the kind of ceiling that Manning possesses.
What Does the Future Have in Store for Arch Manning?
At this point in time, it is widely expected that Manning will be one of the top quarterback options available in the 2027 NFL Draft. There was some speculation that he could enter the draft this year, but he announced his intention to return to Texas after the season came to an end.
Manning, the nephew of former NFL superstars Eli Manning and Peyton Manning, has the potential to become a starting quarterback at the next level. If he can develop to reach his full talent level, his future is incredibly bright.
Even after a disappointing 2025 campaign, most analysts still believe that Manning is the projected No. 1 overall pick for the 2027 NFL Draft. He’ll have to earn that spot with his play for the Longhorns next season, but the hype is still surrounding him.
Hopefully, he’ll be able to return quickly from the surgery he had done and begin his journey towards being an NFL quarterback and following in the footsteps of his family name. The sky is the limit for Manning moving forward.
