Last month, the Boston Red Sox got swept by the New York Yankees in the American League Wild Card Series.

The Red Sox still had a strong season where they turned things around after an abysmal start.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan wrote (on September 30): “FINAL: Yankees 9, Red Sox 2 New York sweeps Boston in dominant fashion and heads to the division series against top-seeded Tampa Bay. Every starter registered a hit. Cody Bellinger socked a three-run home run. The Yankees did just about everything well. The Red Sox … did not.”

On October 13, the Red Sox announced that they had released a player from their system.

MLB.com wrote: “Portland Sea Dogs released 1B Hudson White.”

Looking At White

White was picked in the 9th round of the 2024 MLB Draft.

He finished last season (in Single-A and Double-A) batting .231 with one home run and 10 RBIs in 34 games.

It will be interesting to see where the 24-year-old lands before the start of spring training.

Hunter Noll of Beyond the Monster wrote (on September 11): “First Double-A hit for Boston Red Sox prospect Hudson White!”

Here’s what people were saying on social media about the release:

Ed Hand: “The Red Sox have released C/1B prospect Hudson White, previously at Double-A Portland.”

@UConnBoss: “Tragedy. Streets will riot.”

@BrianJoyce10: “Wow, thought he had a chance to be a sneaky contributor in 2027 for the big club. Showed a lot at the plate, versatile he is, and just an all around great kid is….Hudson.”

@RomanSox_: “Dang”

Looking At The Red Sox

The Red Sox finished the regular season as the third-place team in the American League East with an 87-75 record in 162 games.

They fired Alex Cora during the middle of the season.

Chad Tracy did such a good job that he was given a contract to manage the team going forward.

The Red Sox wrote (via X) on September 22: “The #RedSox today announced that they have exercised the club’s 2029 and 2030 contract options on Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow and named Chad Tracy the team’s 49th manager in club history, agreeing to a three-year contract that will run through the 2029 season with a club option in 2030.”
