When the Boston Red Sox activated Trevor Story and Roman Anthony off the injured list on Sunday, there needed to be some players sent down to Triple-A Worcester. The Red Sox play over the last couple of months made for some tough decisions.
When the dust settled, Mickey Gasper and Anthony Seigler were optioned to Worcester on Sunday from Yankee Stadium before the series final. However, little did Gasper know that he would be back so quickly.
Mickey Gasper Doesn’t Mince Words After Being Recalled By Boston Red Sox
Gasper has been around the game of baseball long enough to know that decisions have to be made. That was the case on Sunday morning. He did have one question for general manager Craig Breslow and interim manager Chad Tracy. What does he need to do to remain in Boston the next time he gets called up? If it was produce offensively, he’ll be up for a long time.
Gasper was recalled for the series opener at Fenway Park on Monday night against the Seattle Mariners. First baseman Willson Contreras was placed in the 10-day injured list before Game 1. Gaspar wasted little time in making his presence felt again in Tracy’s lineup.
In the bottom of the first and Seattle already leading 1-0, Gasper hit a solo home run to tie the game in what turned out to be a 9-8, 10-inning Red Sox victory. Boston rallied in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game and won it on a walk-off single from Story in the bottom of the 10th.
“I’m just gonna go out there and do my job,” said Gasper, per Julian Benbow of the Boston Globe. “Willson’s not really a guy you can go out there and replace. Between everything that he does for the team on the field, off the field, in the clubhouse — just his presence in general on the field.
“But I’m going to go out there and play confident and give it everything I got.”
He did that playing first base against Seattle. However, there is no denying what Gasper has brought to the lineup this season. He was part of the turnaround over the hot summer months.
Mickey Gasper Knows His Boston Red Sox Role
Replacing Contreras is not something easily done. Gasper knows that. He’s not looking to. However, what he’s looking to do is just do what he’s done all season: produce and help the Red Sox push closer to a postseason berth.

“But I’m going to go out there and play confident and give it everything I got.”
Gasper has done just that in 2026. The 30-year-old New Hampshire native is slashing .277/.375/.483 with six home runs and 20 RBIs. He has done everything that Tracy and Breslow have asked. Furthermore, he’s looking to continue that into September.
