Before Saturday’s game, the White Sox announced that they had made a roster decision on Reese McGuire.

LaMond Pope of The Chicago Tribune wrote: “The White Sox selected the contract of catcher Drew Romo from Triple-A Charlotte and designated catcher Reese McGuire for assignment.”

McGuire is currently batting .172 with five hits, three RBI’s and one run in 11 games.

He had been in his second stint with the White Sox.

McGuire’s MLB Career

McGuire was the 14th pick in the 2013 MLB Draft.

He spent the first four years of his career playing for the Toronto Blue Jays.

During the 2019 season, McGuire batted .299 in 30 games.

Following the Blue Jays, McGuire had a quick stop with the White Sox before part of three seasons with the Boston Red Sox.

He batted .264 in 161 games in Boston.

The 31-year-old then played last season for the Chicago Cubs (before returning to the White Sox in 2026).

Over 410 career games, McGuire is batting .246 with 25 home runs, 109 RBI’s, 111 runs and seven stolen bases.

The White Sox are 11-15 in 26 games, which has them as the fourth-place team in the American League Central.

Meanwhile, the Red Sox are 9-17 in 26 games, which has them as the last-place team in the American League East.
