There isn’t a team in baseball hotter than the Boston Red Sox over the last month and change.
They’re riding an eight-game winning streak into their weekend series against the Athletics, and interim manager Chad Tracy provided a major update on recently acquired All-Star catcher Adley Rutschman, who remains on the injured list with wrist inflammation.
Tracy Gives Update on Rutschman
According to Alex Speier of The Boston Globe, Tracy revealed that “it’s possible” Rutschman begins a rehab assignment as early as this weekend.
That would most likely come with Triple-A Worcester, and if everything goes well, Rutschman could return to the Red Sox as early as next week.

How Long Has Rutschman Been Out?
Rutschman has been sidelined since July 20, meaning the Red Sox acquired him before the trade deadline knowing he wouldn’t be ready to play immediately.
However, the injury didn’t deter Boston from making a major investment to land the three-time All-Star. The Red Sox sent three of their top prospects and catcher Carlos Narváez to the Baltimore Orioles in the deal.
Rutschman Excited to Join Red Sox
The 28-year-old previously revealed that he’s “excited” to play in front of Boston fans at Fenway Park and help the team win in any way he can.
“Just from playing here, the city loves baseball,” Rutschman said. “It always has a great atmosphere and I’m excited to play in it… They’re playing the game the right way and doing things right. It was cool to watch from a distance. Now being here, like I said — just trying to fit in and help out any way I can.”
Rutschman has appeared in 67 games this season, batting .251 with 30 runs, 62 hits, eight home runs, and 47 RBIs. He’s also slugging .433 with a .764 OPS.
