Houston Astros Sign 4-Year MLB Player Before Guardians Series

On Monday night, the Houston Astros will open up a series with the Cleveland Guardians in Ohio.

The Astros are coming off a 7-5 loss (at home) to the St. Louis Cardinals.

Before Monday’s game, news came out that the Astros had signed Daniel Johnson to a minor league deal.

Johnson’s MLB Career

Johnson was picked in the fifth round of the 2016 MLB Draft.

He spent the first two seasons of his career with the Guardians.

The 30-year-old then had stints with the Baltimore Orioles and San Francisco Giants.

Over the offseason, Johnson was with the Miami Marlins.

However, he got released last month.

Through 67 career games, Johnson is batting .196 with five home runs, six RBI’s, 23 runs and three stolen bases.

Kevin Barral of Fish On First wrote (on April 7): “Daniel Johnson has been released from his contract, per the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp.”

During Sunday’s Triple-A game (with the the affiliate of the Astros), Johnson had a big hit.

Sugar Land Space Cowboys wrote: “DANIEL JOHNSON DELIVERS IN THE CLUTCH 💥rips a go-ahead double in the 10th to break the tie!”

Astros And Guardians Right Now

The Astros have had a tough start to the 2026 MLB season.

They are 8-15 in 23 games, which has them at the bottom of the American League West.

On the road, the Astros have gone just 1-9 in the ten games they have played away from Houston.

Following their series with the Guardians, they will host the New York Yankees on Friday.

On the other side, the Guardians are at the top of the American League Central with a 13-10 record in 23 games.

They are 7-3 in the ten games they have played at home.

Following the Astros, the Guardians will visit the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday in Canada.
