Also on Friday, news came out that Chris Devenski had elected free agency from the Pittsburgh Pirates.
MLB.com wrote (on August 7): “RHP Chris Devenski elected free agency.”
Devenski only appeared in three games for the Pirates.
Looking At Devenski
Devenski was picked in the 25th round of the 2011 MLB Draft.
He spent the first five years of his career with the Houston Astros.
In that span, Devenski made the 2017 MLB All-Star Game (and helped the franchise win the 2017 World Series).
The 35-year-old went 8-5 with a 2.68 ERA in 62 games during the 2017 season.
Following Houston, Devenski had stops with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Angels, Tampa Bay Rays, New York Mets (and Pirates).
It will be interesting to see if he gets picked up before the end of the 2026 season.
Despite his age, Devenski could provide pitching depth to another team on a Minor League contract.
Looking At The Astros Right Now
The Astros got off to a slow start to the 2026 season.
That said, they are currently at the top of the American League West with a 60-57 record in 117 games.
Over their last ten games, the Astros have gone 8-2 (and they are 30-28 in 58 games on the road).
Pirates Right Now
The Pirates are currently the last-place team in the National League Central with a 57-61 record in 118 games.
They have gone just 2-8 over their last ten.
