Former New York Mets All-Star Is Still An MLB Free Agent

On Monday evening, the New York Mets beat the St. Louis Cardinals (in Missouri) by a score of 4-2.

The Mets are 3-1 in their first four games of the new season.

Former Mets Star Is Still A Free Agent

While the Mets are off to a strong start to the 2026 season, it’s worth noting that Noah Syndergaard is still a free agent on March 31.

He was once a star for the Mets (and part of their young core).

Syndergaard last played for the franchise during the 2021 season.

Syndergaard’s Mets Tenure

Syndergaard was the 38th pick in the 2010 MLB Draft.

He spent part of six seasons in New York, making the 2016 MLB All-Star Game.

That season, he went 14-9 with a 2.60 ERA in 30 games.

ESPN Insights wrote (on April 13, 2016): “Noah Syndergaard induced 26 swings and misses last night, the most in a game by a Mets pitcher in the last 15 seasons.”

At just 33, it’s fair to say that Syndergaard could still be pitching for the Mets right now if he had not dealt with injuries.

In addition to his elite pitching, he also had several fun moments as a batter.

This Day In Mets History wrote (on May 11, 2025): “5/11/2016 Noah Syndergaard hits two home runs and drives in all four of New York’s runs against the Dodgers. Syndergaard becomes the first Mets pitcher since Walt Terrell to have a multi-homer game. He also pitches eight innings of two-run ball and records the victory.”

After New York, Syndergaard never found a true home.

He bounced around with the Los Angeles Angels, Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Dodgers and Cleveland Guardians.

Last season, Syndergaard also spent time in the Minor Leagues.

Considering Syndergaard is still a free agent, it will be interesting to see if another team gives him a chance before his eventual retirement.

Mets fans will always remember the potential that he had to become an all-time great (without injuries).
