Carpenter was picked in the first round of the 1993 MLB Draft.
He spent the first six years of his career playing for the Toronto Blue Jays.
The three-time All-Star signed with the Cardinals in 2004.
During his time with the franchise (nine seasons), Carpenter went 95-44 with a 3.07 ERA in 198 games.
The Cardinals won two titles and made the MLB playoffs five times.
