The Toronto Blue Jays are fresh off a series win against the Houston Astros, but instead of getting an off day on Thursday, the Jays are currently playing in a make-up game against the Chicago Cubs.

The next series on the Blue Jays schedule is a matchup with the Philadelphia Phillies (on the road).

In case you forgot, one of the Blue Jays’ recently acquired pitchers came in a trade with the Stros, which sent Daulton Varsho to Houston in exchange for pitcher Spencer Arrighetti.

Well, Blue Jays fans may be getting a taste of what their recent trade acquisition can bring to the table soon, but Arrighetti will first need to go on a rehab stint because of his current injury.

On Thursday, it was announced that Spencer Arrighetti will be headed for a rehab assignment with the Buffalo Bisons, which means his return to the mound is near.

NBCSports.com writer George Bissell wrote (on 8/5):

“Arrighetti, who threw a bullpen session on Tuesday at Daikin Park, told the Blue Jays that he’s ready to take the ball against his former team right now, but that’s not going to happen. The 26-year-old is working his way through a nerve issue in his foot and should be ready to make his Toronto debut sometime around mid-August. He was shipped north of the border in the Daulton Varsho deal at the trade deadline.”

It’s not the first time Spencer Arrighetti has battled injuries in his career. He pitched 145 innings as a rookie in 2024, but was limited to just seven starts in 2025, and has now been semi-limited with a foot injury this season.

Over 268.1 IP with the Stros, he boasted an ERA of 4.66 with 289 strikeouts.
