Winning the World Series may not be as lucrative as you think for the Los Angeles Dodgers. For the general public, players get a sizable amount of money for winning the World Series, but the purse does not compare to some of the global tournaments in the world.
World Series earnings are a bit complicated as MLB does not have a fixed amount that is paid to the winners. Instead, all teams’ earnings are calculated by the postseason revenue.
The World Series players’ earnings will be based on ticket revenue from the first four games, per Investopedia.
We can look back to past World Series data to get an idea of how much money the Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays players will earn. The MLB announced that the Dodgers earned $477,440 after winning the World Series in 2024 and can expect something similar this season.
This was part of a record-setting $129 million postseason pool. It was not all bad news for the New York Yankees players who earned $354,571 in a losing effort, which will likely be similar to what Blue Jays players will take hone.
Here’s what you need to know about the World Series purse.
The Dodgers Are Projected to Earn Nearly a Half Million Dollars for Winning the World Series
Based on these projections, the Dodgers are expected to receive nearly $500,000 for once again winning the World Series.
Toronto players are projected to earn about $350,000 after the team came in second place based on the 2024 financial data.
It is not just the World Series participants who get paid. All postseason teams get some portion of revenue from ticket sales. In 2024, this ranged from the Milwaukee Brewers‘ share of $10,000 to the New York Mets who earned nearly $180,000.
Chelsea Players Earned More Than $500,000 for Winning the Club World Cup
By comparison, global soccer power Chelsea earned a massive $114.6 million for winning the Club World Cup in 2025, per The Athletic’s Mario Cortegana and Adam Crafton. The club allocated $15.5 million to be distributed equally to the players.
This means each player earned more than $500,000 for winning the Club World Cup. While not significantly more than the World Series winner, the overall purse appears to be much more lucrative than what is offered in the MLB.
Winning the World Series Is Still Lucrative Thanks to Additional Business Opportunities
Every American would be thrilled to get an extra $477,000. Yet, consider that Blue Jays slugger Vlad Guerrero Jr. is on a 14-year, $500 million contract. Shohei Ohtani is on a 10-year, $700 million deal.
The World Series purse does not seem quite as financially significant for players given this context. It is still lucrative to win the World Series. Players are likely to earn more endorsement opportunities, and for rest of their lives can use the term “World Series champion” in any promotion.
Some things in sports are bigger than money, such as being part of the select few players who have a World Series ring. Still, the $477,000 or so does not hurt either.
