On Saturday evening, the Boston Celtics will host the Washington Wizards.

The Celtics most recently lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder by a score of 104-102 (in Oklahoma).

Before Saturday’s game, Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported that the Celtics are signing a new player.

Scotto wrote: “The Boston Celtics plan to sign Charles Bassey to a 10-day deal, league sources told @hoopshype. Bassey has averaged 4.3 points on 63% shooting from the field and 4.3 rebounds in 11.1 minutes during five combined NBA seasons with the Spurs, Grizzlies, and 76ers.”

UPDATE: Bassey was not available for Saturday’s game (as the move is not official yet).

Bassey has appeared in three games this season for the Philadelphia 76ers and Memphis Grizzlies.

He is averaging 3.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per contest while shooting 44.4% from the field.

Charles Bassey’s NBA Career

Bassey was the 53rd pick in the 2021 NBA Draft out of Western Kentucky.

He has also spent time with the San Antonio Spurs over part of five seasons.

His career averages are 4.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per contest while shooting 62.6% from the field in 116 games.

NBA G League wrote (on January 26, 2023): “40 PTS 🤯 16 REB 🤯 19/24 FG

Charles Bassey is a FORCE. He scored a CAREER-HIGH in a grown-man double-double night for the @austin_spurs! Bassey did this in only 32 minutes of action.”

Celtics This Season

The Celtics are the second seed in the Eastern Conference with a 42-23 record in 65 games.

They are in the middle of a two-game losing streak (and have won six out of ten).

Following the Wizards, the Celtics will play their next game on Monday when they host the Phoenix Suns.

At home, they have gone 21-10 in 31 games.

Last season, the Celtics lost to the New York Knicks in the second round of the 2025 NBA playoffs.

They had been coming off a year where they won the NBA title over the Dallas Mavericks.
