Popular point guard Ja Morant received a great sign that he’s going to get traded this offseason after his time with the Memphis Grizzlies reaches an ugly ending. This season showed Morant and the Grizzlies clashing during a terrible season. However, Memphis kept Morant past the trade deadline due to receiving horrible offers after his value hit a low point.

Jake Fischer reports that the Grizzlies expect a better market and will be shopping Morant for the best deal to start their rebuild:

“Sources say that the Jazz, who have the emerging Keyonte George at the forefront of their backcourt, are not currently regarded as a possible landing spot for Morant with Memphis widely expected to resume its efforts to trade him in the coming weeks. However, I am starting to hear predictive murmurs that the Grizzlies will find a wider trade market for Morant than they did in February when external interest was extremely minimal.”

Fischer first shared the previous rumors of the Utah Jazz wanting Morant are now over. Utah traded for Morant’s teammate Jaren Jackson Jr. at the trade deadline, but they now trust Keyonte George as their point guard for the future. The bigger news is that Memphis now has confidence that more teams will send viable offers this summer.

What Memphis Can Get For Ja Morant?

The Grizzlies still will not get a trade package for Morant compared to his value from three seasons ago. However, Memphis traded both Jackson Jr. and Desmond Bane for a plethora of draft picks to make it easier to trade Morant without a stellar offer involved.

Morant is the only player left from the core that contended not that long ago with Jackson, Bane, and Dillon Brooks as his supporting cast. The Grizzlies will likely add Morant to that list as the next name traded this summer.

Both sides clashed this season and Morant even got punished for criticizing Memphis’ coaching decisions to the media. The Grizzlies unofficially tanked after the All-Star break and kept Morant on the bench in street clothes as he recovered from various injuries. Memphis clearly wants to move on and will move Morant for the best offer.

Which Teams Most Want Ja Morant?

The Miami Heat have been the most obvious team interested in Morant as they desperately look to add star power. Memphis could settle on a Tyler Herro package and one of the expendable younger players or a future draft pick from that deal.

Morant’s best chance at winning would see the Minnesota Timberwolves acquiring him, but it would be tough with them having an already expensive roster. Minnesota showed interest at the trade deadline before going another route of acquiring the cheaper Ayo Dosunmu.

Losing teams like the Brooklyn Nets and Sacramento Kings have been interested in reportedly adding bigger names this summer. Memphis should have enough options to get at least one or two offers they believe in. The Grizzlies already have a few young pieces to build around and assets from other teams to draft new talents moving forward.
