The Chicago Bears‘ fairytale 2025 season came to a crushing end in the divisional round of the playoffs when they suffered a 20-17 overtime defeat at the hands of the Los Angeles Rams. Now, the team will head into the offseason looking to build off of what they just accomplished, and one guy whose future with the team appears to be up in the air is wide receiver DJ Moore.
From an individual production standpoint, Moore turned in the worst season of his career in 2025 (50 REC, 672 YDS, 6 TD). While he often showed up in the biggest moments, Moore’s lack of consistency throughout the year made fans wonder just how important he is to the team. As a result, Moore has been labeled a potential trade candidate for Chicago this offseason, but one NFL insider doesn’t necessarily believe such a move will take place.
Field Yates Shoots Down DJ Moore Trade Rumors
Ever since landing with the Bears, Moore’s production has steadily decreased for the team. In 2023, Moore turned in the most productive year of his career, as he caught 96 passes for 1,364 yards and eight touchdowns. Since Caleb Williams has taken over under center, though, his desire to spread the ball around on offense has led to Moore’s production taking a hit.
Chicago’s offense is loaded with weapons beyond Moore, which is part of the reason his numbers are trending in the wrong direction. At wide receiver, both Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III appear to be budding young stars. Colston Loveland and Cole Kmet are leading the way at tight end, while D’Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai have formed a strong duo at running back.
With all these other offensive playmakers in town, it’s fair to wonder if Moore is even needed. While there’s no doubt he’s a top-tier playmaker, the Bears could conceivably trade him this offseason in an effort to help shore up some of the weaker areas on their roster. And while that line of thought makes sense, NFL insider Field Yates of ESPN doesn’t exactly think it’s a guarantee Moore will be on the move ahead of the 2026 campaign.
“I think it’s very possible,” Yates said on “Waddle & Silvy” when asked if he thinks Moore will be with the Bears next season. “His contract for next year, the base salary is guaranteed, so the only way that DJ Moore is not a Bear is if he gets traded. He’s not gonna get cut straight up, that’s just not gonna happen … There’s a lot of good that you’ve seen in DJ Moore. He was so clutch down the stretch for them.”
Should the Bears Trade DJ Moore?

After putting together such a strong season in 2025, the offseason for the Bears is going to involve them retooling their roster. If that means moving on from Moore in order to shore up some of the team’s weak spots, it may have to be done. Ultimately, Chicago’s willingness to trade Moore will likely depend on how much confidence they have in Odunze and Burden at wide receiver.
Moore’s effort throughout the season was criticized by fans, but typically speaking, when Williams needed to hit a big throw, Moore was his target. Having that sort of receiver is important for a young quarterback, which is why making this sort of move could be a mistake for Chicago. Either way, it’s clear that Moore’s status is going to be a big storyline as the offseason unfolds.
