Mike Vrabel spent Saturday night making one thing clear about the New England Patriots: he wants more from the bottom half of the roster.
Two days later, the Patriots head coach identified five players who helped provide it.
The Boston Herald’s Doug Kyed reported Monday on X that Vrabel highlighted cornerback Kindle Vildor, offensive tackle Dametrious Crownover, defensive tackle Leonard Taylor III and wide receivers Efton Chism III and Kyle Dixon for their ability to step up in New England’s 24-21 preseason win over the Philadelphia Eagles.
The praise redirects attention after Vrabel’s blunt assessment following the game.
“I do not think we have a very deep team,” Vrabel said Saturday. He added that New England has to prepare its roster while keeping its best players available, which has influenced how the coaching staff has handled preseason playing time.

Vildor may have made the loudest statement of the five.
The veteran cornerback broke up two official passes on one drive, with another breakup erased by penalty, per Patriots.com’s film review. He allowed one catch for six yards on three targets and also stopped a completion short of the sticks on third down.
The performance continued a strong stretch for Vildor, who intercepted a pass during the two-minute period of Wednesday’s joint practice with Philadelphia. Patriots.com wrote that the 28-year-old “might’ve locked himself into a roster spot” as a backup boundary corner.
Taylor also responded at a position New England has been searching for more consistency behind its top options.
The 305-pound defensive tackle generated a key fourth-down pressure, recorded two run stuffs and finished with two quarterback pressures, including a hit.
That was enough for Patriots.com to call him the team’s most effective defensive tackle Saturday, and it’s music to Taylor’s ears as he faces stiff competition for reserve snaps.
Crownover, Chism and Dixon Make Their Opportunities Count

Crownover was forced into extended duty after an early injury on the offensive line and essentially played the rest of the game.
The sixth-round rookie logged 55 snaps at right tackle and another 13 on the left side, flashing movement in the run game despite allowing two pressures, including a sack.
That workload gave New England a lengthy look at one of its young tackles at a time when injuries have thinned the offensive line. His ability to handle both sides also gives the coaching staff a solid data point when sorting out the backup tackle spots.
Chism yielded a steadier showing at receiver.
He caught all four of his targets for 45 yards, including a 24-yard gain on third down. The second-year wideout has now caught all seven of his preseason targets for 65 yards, strengthening his roster case in a competitive receiver room.
Dixon’s numbers were quieter, but he made a critical play.
The undrafted rookie finished with two catches for 10 yards, and one came on fourth-and-1 with 1:13 remaining. The conversion extended the drive that produced New England’s game-winning touchdown less than 20 seconds later, via Philadelphia’s official game recap.
Vrabel’s five-player shoutout doesn’t wipe out every depth concern he raised Saturday.
But in the end, it helps walk back the directness of his previous statement that could be taken the wrong way.
