The New England Patriots made the decision earlier this offseason to release veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs.

After a successful 2025 season with the Patriots, Diggs remains a free agent. He was a big part of the team’s run to the Super Bowl, although they came up just short against the Seattle Seahawks in the big game.

Diggs has been connected as a potential fit for quite a few teams. There are still many who could consider signing a wide receiver upgrade. New England has been rumored as a potential landing spot to reunite with Diggs.

While the rumors are out there, a new insider update has been shared about the Patriots’ chances of bringing Diggs back for the 2026 season.

Patriots Insider Shares Major Stefon Diggs Reunion Update

According to Phil Perry of NBC Sports Boston, the chances of Diggs returning to New England do not seem to be great.

“If they miss out on A.J Brown, I guess that’s a different topic or it just gives it a new wrinkle that I’m not really considering right now,” Perry said. “With A.J. Brown anticipated to be in the fold, I don’t see Stefon Diggs coming back. I don’t really think this court case had anything to do with the Patriots releasing him.”

Perry continued on, getting more blunt about why the team likely won’t be re-signing Diggs this offseason.

“I think that the move to part ways with him was more about money owed and age and a willingness and a desire to upgrade, which I think they think they have done with Romeo Dobbs. So before even adding A.J Brown, I think they think they’re better off at that position right now.”

Things can always change, but for not it seems to be a long shot that Diggs will reunite with the Patriots this offseason.

What Teams Could Consider Signing Stefon Diggs?

Looking around the NFL, there are a few teams that stick out above the rest as a potential landing spot for Diggs.

One of those teams is the Indianapolis Colts. They could use a wide receiver after trading Michael Pittman Jr. earlier this offseason. Adding Diggs would give Daniel Jones another much-needed weapon alongside of Alec Pierce and Josh Downs.

Another team to watch could be the Washington Commanders. If they don’t end up getting Brandon Aiyuk, adding a wide receiver like Diggs would help Jayden Daniels immensely.

Yet another franchise that could make sense for Diggs would be the Kansas City Chiefs. They are always looking to invest in Patrick Mahomes. Diggs could be the missing piece for their offense.

Outside of those three teams, there are others who could use wide receiver help. Assuming Diggs does not return to New England, there will be no shortage of other suitors who come calling before the 2026 season arrives.
