One former Philadelphia Eagles tight end who had a brief but memorable stint with the team is hanging up his cleats.
“Veteran TE C.J. Uzomah is retiring from the NFL after 10 seasons, ending his career as a member of the Bengals,” F4F Media wrote on its official X account on Monday. “Seven of those seasons were spent in Cincinnati. Congratulations on a great career, C.J. WHO DEY FOREVER.”
Uzomah spent 1 season with the Eagles in 2024 and was part of their Super Bowl-winning team.
He officially announced the news on his Instagram page.
“History has a way of repeating itself and there’s no place I’d want to formally announce my retirement, than the place that started it all for me and gave me my chance,” Uzomah wrote on Monday. “The place I will always think of as my second home and will always hold a special place in me and my family’s heart. The place where we won a playoff game for the first time since before I was born, and went on an odds defying run to the Super Bowl. A place I’ve met people who have become like brothers to me. Cincinnati, thank you for everything.”
“C.J. Uzomah has announced his retirement from the NFL after 10 seasons,” Fourth & News wrote on X on Monday. “Uzomah finishes his career with 192 receptions, 1,881 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns. He spent seven seasons with the Bengals, two with the Jets and one with the Eagles.”
Switched From WR to Tight End at Auburn
Uzomah, 6-foot-6 and 262 pounds, was a 5th-round pick (No. 157 overall) by the Cincinnati Bengals out of Auburn in the 2015 NFL Draft and played the 1st 7 seasons of his career with the Bengals.
“Former high school wide receiver who still plays the game with a wide receiver’s mindset rather than a tight end’s,” NFL Draft analyst Lance Zierlein wrote in his 2015 pre-draft evaluation. “Must get tougher and more physical to become a serviceable in-line blocker but that might not happen. Underutilized in Auburn’s limited passing game and could become a much more productive move tight end in the pros than he was in college.”
