The Seattle Seahawks are beginning to put the finishing touches on their preparations for Super Bowl LX, which will see them square off against the New England Patriots. On Wednesday, the Seahawks and their fans were dealt some worrying injury news regarding star rookie safety Nick Emmanwori that could have a massive impact on the outcome of this game.

During Seattle’s most recent practice, reports emerged indicating that Emmanwori was forced off the field early after suffering an ankle injury. While the overall severity of the injury is currently unknown, Emmanwori only has a couple of days to get himself ready for the Super Bowl. With Emmanwori’s injury status dominating headlines, one of his veteran teammates, defensive lineman DeMarcus Lawrence, sent a strong message of support his way.

While the Seahawks’ offense has received quite a bit of attention throughout the year, it’s their defense that has been the driving force behind their Super Bowl run. With a loaded front seven and a secondary full of playmakers, Seattle makes opposing offenses work for every yard, and it will continue to look to do that against New England.

Selected in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, Emmanwori has quickly become a key piece of this unit. A Swiss Army Knife who can do a little bit of everything, Emmanwori finished his rookie season with 81 tackles, 2.5 sacks, one interception, and 11 pass deflections. The Seahawks line Emmanwori up all over the field, and he always seems to have a penchant for making a big play when his team needs him the most.

Emmanwori figured to have a big role for Seattle in the Super Bowl, but that could change if his recent ankle injury doesn’t heal for him. Everyone on the Seahawks’ defense knows just how important Emmanwori is to the team, including Lawrence, who went out of his way to lift up the former South Carolina Gamecocks star after he suffered his aforementioned injury.

“I believe we all found out early in training camp,” Lawrence said after being asked when he knew Emmanwori was going to be a special player. “He was making so many plays out there. To see a rookie thrive early in training camp, when you first get the playbook, is special. We definitely knew it from day one.”

Will Nick Emmanwori Play in Super Bowl LX?

The Seahawks could have a problem on their hands if Emmanwori can’t play in the Super Bowl. As noted above, the talented rookie can do a little bit of everything, which allows Seattle to be aggressive when attacking opposing offenses. If he isn’t on the field, that will handicap the defense ever so slightly, which could open things up for New England’s offense.

If Emmanwori ends up being unable to play, that would force Ty Okada and Riq Woolen to take on bigger roles in the secondary. The good news for the Seahawks is that they have several guys who can fill in for Emmanwori if needed, but in a game of this magnitude, you obviously want your top players on the field as much as possible. With kickoff drawing near, it will be worth keeping an eye out for Emmanwori’s practice status on Thursday and Friday.
