The Seattle Seahawks won Super Bowl LX in convincing fashion, leaving any doubt about the best team during the 2025 NFL season. Now, the debate can begin on where Mike Macdonald’s Seahawks stand among some of the greatest Super Bowl winners ever.
While speaking to NFL Network’s Rich Eisen at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine, Macdonald argued pundits and fans should see last season’s Seahawks as one of the best teams of the Super Bowl era.
“The 2025-26 Seattle Seahawks, I think, deserve to be recognized as one of the all-time great teams, great performances,” Macdonald told Eisen.
“Find me a stat and compare it to everybody else. But that’s important, you know, in the history books, and our guys deserve that recognition.”
It’s pretty bold to compare any modern team to some of the all-time squads. But Macdonald isn’t wrong to start the conversation.
The Seahawks posted a league-best mark of 14-3. Two of those three losses were to division rivals who made the postseason. The Seahawks defeated those division rivals during the regular season and playoffs.
Macdonald’s club also won two of their three postseason games by at least 16 points.
Statistically, the Seahawks were a juggernaut. Seattle finished third in points scored and eighth in yards. The Seahawks ended the regular season ranked in the top 10 in both rushing and passing.
Defensively, the Seahawks finished first in points allowed and sixth in yards yielded. Seattle’s defense was top 10 against the run and pass too.
Where Do 2025 Seahawks Rank Among Greatest NFL Super Bowl Teams?
Grading current teams against past Super Bowl winners has become harder and harder. Rules change, free agency develops and other alterations in the league make it next to impossible to determine how a modern-day team would perform against another from decades ago.
Furthermore, there are now 60 Super Bowl winners. That’s a lot of competition for a new champion to be considered one of the top teams ever.
The best way to start a debate like this, though, is simply looking at how much a team dominated its schedule.
That’s where the Seahawks are going to have a strong argument to be ranked among the best. No team gave up fewer points, and only two teams scored more than Seattle last year.
There were only a couple times the Seahawks defense turned in a subpar performance in 2025. One of those times was the 38-35 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the worst defeat the Seahawks suffered during the season.
But thanks to Sam Darnold’s play, the team was very competitive despite the leaky pass defense versus Baker Mayfield.
Likewise, Darnold and the offense only had a few poor games, one of which was the 21-19 defeat to the Rams in November. Darnold tossed four interceptions in the contest.
Yet, thanks to the defense, the Seahawks were also very competitive that day.
The Seahawks had a couple close calls against non-playoff teams — the Indianapolis Colts and Arizona Cardinals. But they dominated others such as the New Orleans Saints, Washington Commanders, Minnesota Vikings and Atlanta Falcons.
They also defeated AFC playoff teams, the Jacksonville Jaguars and Pittsburgh Steelers, on the road.
Which Seahawks Team is Best in NFL History?
Before determining where the 2025 Seahawks stand in league history, it might be more appropriate to compare them to the other Super Bowl winner for the franchise.
The Seahawks only have one other Super Bowl win. But that team was dominating as well. The 2013 Seahawks went 13-3 and blew out Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII.
In 2013, the Seahawks were first in a lot of defensive categories. The Seattle offense was 17th in yards during 2013 but eighth in points scored with franchise legends, quarterback Russell Wilson and running back Marshawn Lynch.
That’s stiff competition for Macdonald’s Super Bowl team to be the No. 1 team in Seahawks history.
It’s a fun debate, though, and it’s quite obvious that both Seahawks Super Bowl winners are two of the best NFL teams this century.
