The Seattle Seahawks will soon need to address some pressing issues around their offense, but the team is first taking the chance to reflect on their magical run in the 2026 season.

The Seahawks are basking in their run to the NFC West title and Super Bowl by sharing some news about wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba. The star wide receiver had a stellar season as he grew into one of the league’s best pass-catchers, and the Seahawks honored his growth in an announcement this week.

Seahawks Share Love for Jaxon Smith-Njigba

The Seahawks took to social media to praise Smith-Njigba for his second consecutive season topping 1,000 yards. As the team noted, Smith-Njigba followed up his 1,138-yard season in 2024 by reaching 1,793 yards last season.

“Encore,” the team shared in a post on X.

Smith-Njigba continued to excel in the playoffs, making 17 receptions for 199 yards and a team-leading two touchdowns in their three wins.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba Set to Get Paid

The Seahawks may need to pay up after Smith-Njigba’s big season. Speaking to reporters after the season ended, the All-Pro wide receiver said he isn’t pushing the team on a contract extension, but believes it will come eventually and he will be paid accordingly.

“I’m not really too pressed right now to get it done,” Smith-Njigba said. “I know my time is coming, and when we get it done, it’s going to be a great deal. God’s timing is perfect timing. So whenever that may come, we’ll be ready for it.

“I think I deserve to be the highest paid in my position, and what I give to the game and my community. I give it my all, and I think that’s worth a lot more. I would play this game for free. I love this game so much, but you don’t have to, and I’m learning to be a good businessman and we need that check at the end of the day.”

Decisions Ahead for the Seahawks

While the Seahawks have still been looking backward at their Super Bowl season, they will soon face some difficult decisions on their roster. Several players are headed to free agency, including Super Bowl MVP running back Kenneth Walker III.

As Nick Shook of NFL.com noted, the Seahawks opted against using the franchise tag to keep Walker in Seattle. That could pave the way for the veteran running back to hit free agency, where it could be difficult for the Seahawks to match offers from competitors.

“The Seattle Seahawks did not use their franchise tag on running back Kenneth Walker III ahead of the league’s Tuesday deadline to tag players,” Shook reported. “With the new league year and free agency approaching next week, Seattle is left with two options: Work out a new deal with Walker before the start of free agency on March 11, or risk losing him to another suitor.”

Shook added that the Seahawks could be poised to retain Walker after he tests free agency, but the team is willing to take the risk that he lands elsewhere and they instead turn to Zach Charbonnet as the top running back.
