Vincent Trochcek is emerging as one of the top trade candidates across the NHL, as teams have just a few days to decide if they want to trade for the New York Rangers centerman.
With just three days left until the NHL trade deadline, hockey reporter Elliotte Friedman believes that three teams remain in on Trocheck, with the Carolina Hurricanes being one of them. It’s thought that the Rangers, if they get the right trade package, will ship Trocheck where he wants, and that seems to be somewhere on the East Coast.
The Hurricanes are naturally going to be linked to several top trade candidates, as Carolina is in a good spot to make additions and is in a clear “Stanley Cup or bust” season with the Florida Panthers falling out of contention.

Are the Hurricanes a Good Fit for Vincent Trochek?

GettyTrade pitch has Rangers dealing Vincent Trocheck.
Trocheck doesn’t hold any secrets as a player. He’d be an immediate fit on just about any team in the NHL as a top center that can play a handful of minutes and can win faceoff draws.
He has 12 goals this season with 38 total points on a struggling Rangers team. The only conundrum here is that the Rangers remain firm on their asking price being high, so hypothetically, if the Canes make a strong push for him, it would likely cost a player or two on their roster, and maybe a draft pick.
Vincent Trocheck also comes with a seven-year, $39.375 million contract that he signed back in 2022, and carries an AAV just above $5 million. There is a modified no-trade clause in the deal, which just adds more fuel to the speculative teams that could end up trading for him.
But for now, it seems like the three teams firmly in the running for the Rangers’ star are the Carolina Hurricanes, Minnesota Wild, and Detroit Red Wings.

Should the Hurricanes Trade for Trocheck?
The Carolina Hurricanes sit very comfortably atop the Metropolitan Division, where the rival New York Rangers are currently in the cellar.
However, after a really disappointing 2025-26 season for New York, changes must be made, and that might start with getting a strong return for Trochek.
With the trade deadline just a few days away, it’s important to stay updated on all the recent reports. But Canes’ fans, should Carolina trade for Vincent Trochek? And if so, what is a good trade package to offer New York for their most highly-sought-after player?
