Could the Red Wings land Canucks defenseman Tyler Myers with this trade pitch?

The 2026 NHL trade deadline is rapidly approaching, as it is on March 6. With this, NHL teams only have just over one week to make any trades that they wish to. One of the teams that hockey fans should be keeping an eye on leading up to the deadline is the Detroit Red Wings.

The Red Wings are in a perfect position to be buyers. At the time of this writing, they have a 33-19-6 record and are fourth in the Atlantic Division standings. According to PuckPedia, they also have just under $60 million of trade deadline cap space, so they are undoubtedly in a spot to make multiple additions if they wish to.

The Vancouver Canucks, on the other hand, are ready to continue to sell. The Canucks are at the bottom of the NHL standings with a brutal 18-33-7 record and just 43 points. With how poorly this season has gone for them, they have already started rebuilding and should move out more of their players ahead of the deadline because of it.

One specific Canucks trade candidate is defenseman Tyler Myers, and he is exactly the kind of defenseman that the Red Wings should be making a big push for. Because of this, we here at Heavy Sports have a trade pitch that would have the Canucks send Myers to the Red Wings.

Red Wings Get:

  • Tyler Myers

Canucks Get:

  • 2026 Second-Round Pick
  • 2027 Sixth-Round Pick

Canucks Are Ready to Trade Tyler Myers

Myers is undoubtedly a big trade candidate to keep an eye on right now. This is because the 6-foot-8 defenseman was recently scratched by the Canucks for their Feb. 25 contest against the Winnipeg Jets due to trade-related reasons. Due to this, there is certainly a chance that the Canucks will end up trading the 36-year-old defenseman.

Myers will ultimately have the final say over whether or not he gets traded, though. This is because the veteran defenseman has a full no-movement clause for the remainder of this season. It then changes to a 12-team no-trade list for the 2026-27 season, which will be the final year of his contract.

However, with the Red Wings being an exciting team on the rise, it is certainly possible that Myers could end up being willing to go there. This is especially so when looking at how poorly this season has gone for the struggling Canucks.

Red Wings Have Been Linked to Myers

According to TSN’s Darren Dreger, the Red Wings are among the teams that have expressed interest in Myers.

“Tyler Myers continues to consider a trade option. It’s believed Detroit is the target. Other teams have expressed interest, including Dallas. Likely why Myers is taking his time in allowing the process to develop,” Dreger posted on X.

With the Red Wings in need of another right-shot defenseman, it makes all the sense in the world that they are interested in Myers. He would improve the right side of their defense nicely and would be a good veteran for Detroit to have as they look to get into the playoffs for the first time in nine years.
