Haiti has announced its full 26-player squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. It’s the second time the country has qualified for the FIFA World Cup. Haiti is making its return to the World Cup, ending a 52-year absence from the tournament. Haiti’s only prior World Cup campaign came in 1974, where they suffered three consecutive defeats. They conceded 14 goals, with Emmanuel Sanon scoring the team’s only two goals of the tournament.

Head coach Sébastien Migné announced the full squad earlier today. The captain and leader of the team is goalkeeper Johnny Placide. He is also the player in the 26-player squad with the most caps. The team’s all-time top scorer is lead striker Duckens Nazon. The 32-year-old, who plays for Iranian club Esteghlal F.C., has scored 44 goals for Haiti. Another well-known name in the squad is William Isidor. The France-born Sunderland striker, who is of Haitian and Malagasy descent, decided to represent Haiti in March and has instantly become one of the team’s biggest stars.

Qualification For The 2026 FIFA World Cup

Haiti started its qualification cycle for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in a group with Curaçao, Saint Lucia, Aruba, and Barbados. The two top teams proceeded to the next round. Haiti won three of the four matches, only coming up short against Curaçao. With the second place in the group, the Haitians qualified for the next stage. They were drawn in a tough group with Costa Rica, Honduras, and Nicaragua. In their first four group matches, Les Grenadiers took five points of the possible twelve.

Qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup looked almost impossible. However, a massive 1-0 victory over Costa Rica in Curaçao, where the Haitians played all their home matches due to the unstable situation in their home country, combined with Honduras losing to Nicaragua, shifted the group dynamic. These unexpected results put both countries at the top of the standings with eight points and just one match remaining. On November 18, the Haitians secured a 2-0 victory over Nicaragua, while Honduras played out a draw against Costa Rica. This combination of results officially sealed Haiti’s historic qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
