Ben Doody is a reporter and editor who's been Heavy.com's Managing Editor since 2014. Doody launched Heavy's Sports section in late 2014 and oversaw its expansion.

Prior to joining Heavy, he spent two years as Connecticut Managing Editor for Digital First Media, where he oversaw coverage for the New Haven Register, Torrington Register-Citizen, Middletown Press, Connecticut Magazine, and a collection of hyperlocal newspapers.

At DFM, he oversaw the Connecticut properties' coverage of University of Connecticut football and basketball and launched GameTimeCT, a state-wide prep sports brand. He was the editor in 2013 of Hockey Haven, a book written by New Haven Register journalists Chip Malafronte and Jim Shelton about the rise of the Yale University and Quinnipiac University hockey programs. In 2013, Editor & Publisher featured him in its annual "25 under 35" edition for his newsroom leadership and digital innovation.

Doody spent two years as a digital news editor at Hearst Connecticut Media Group, where he coordinated coverage for the Connecticut Post, The Advocate of Stamford, the Greenwhich Time, and the News-Times of Danbury, along with a collection of hyperlocal publications. Doody also contributed to coverage of the University of Connecticut and Fairfield University basketball programs, writing a front-page column when the UConn men's basketball team won the national championship in 2011.

He began his career at The Trentonian, where he joined the staff as a reporter, blogger, columnist, and copy editor in 2007 before being promoted to Assistant Sports Editor in 2008. In Trenton, he covered Rutgers University football and basketball, Rider University basketball and baseball, Princeton University basketball and hockey, and the Trenton Thunder, then the Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, among other subjects.
