Pat Pickens is a versatile and seasoned sportswriter, copywriter, author, editor and storyteller who has covered professional sports for Advance Local, The Game Day, The Action Network, NHL.com, The Associated Press, New York Times, USA Today, Bleacher Report and others for more than 15 years.
He was a sports editor and reporter for the Hearst Connecticut Media Group, overseeing sports content for the Fairfield Citizen-News and Westport News and contributing to the Connecticut Post, Stamford Advocate and Greenwich Time.
He is the author of the 2021 nonfiction book "The Whalers: The Rise, Fall, and Enduring Mystique of New England's (Second) Greatest NHL Franchise" about the history of the NHL's Hartford Whalers.
Pickens is the co-creator of the documentary film “The Team That Wouldn’t Die,” on the history of the Whalers, that was released in 2025.
Education
Pat Pickens graduated from Sacred Heart University in 2007 with a bachelor's degree in communication and technology and media studies. He was a writer for The Spectrum, the student newspaper at Sacred Heart.
