‘Overwatch’ World Cup Captain Stylosa: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Stylosa, Unit Lost

With the first ever Overwatch World Cup only a couple months away, it’s time to start looking at the various team captains that hope to take their country to victory. First up is one of the biggest Overwatch related Youtube personalities, Unit Lost, aka Sylosa. Since starting his Youtube channel on January 25, 2011, Stylosa’s following has grown to over 285,000 subscribers as of writing this.

While he doesn’t work alone, Stylosa is by far the most prominent and well known of those who appear on the channel Unit Lost – Great British Gaming. He’s also an avid mountain biker and is currently leading the British Team at the World Cup.

Here’s what you need to know:

1. He Started Out Playing ‘Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II Retribution’

While Stylosa is well known in the Overwatch community he actually started making videos far earlier than that. Some of his first videos include a gameplay series of him and his partner Kirioth going through Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II Retribution. For those who don’t know, this is a real-time strategy game where players control a variety of different armies from the Warhammer 40,000 universe.

He’s also known for playing the popular multiplayer game Mount & Blade: With Fire And Sword where he and his partner made their character look like famed British television actor/presenter Karl Pilkington. Other games featured on his channel include popular eSports title League of Legends, Minecraft, Battlefield, and various one-off titles. Now, Stylosa predominantly covers Blizzard’s FPS Overwatch and has made a name for himself among the community.

2. He Worked With Blizzard at This Year’s Gamescom

This year’s Gamescom saw developer Blizzard Entertainment enlist a few big Overwatch personalities to stream and help promote their station. Gamescom was held in Cologne, Germany and featured members like Sylosa streaming their new content such as the recently released map, Eichenwald. Stylosa admitted on his own podcast that the entire event was surreal and even Blizzard staff were asking for his autograph. He also took part in the Sombra character storyline, which has been a series of cryptic teasers and messages strewn about various websites and trailers.

On August 24, 2016, Stylosa’s account was “taken over” by the still yet to unveiled character Sombra. This included a variety of different Tweets going out to his 19 thousand follows, which were either in Spanish or nodded to something called the God Program. Since then he has been mum on the entire situation.

3. He Frequently Plays Solider 76, Lucio, Junkrat, and Zayra

Some of Stylosa’s favorite Overwatch heroes include the offense hero Soldier 76, Area of Effect healer Lucio, the mad bomber Junkrat, and Russian tank Zayra. While he has made guides on all of these characters for his Youtube channel, Soldier 76 has been his go to for any Competitive Gameplay. Lucio has also been a strong pick for this year’s current competitive season as he has 5 hours on this character and 8 hours on Zayra.

He’s also on the record for praising many of the changes made in the last patch, including Soldier 76’s adjustments to his range and the radius of Mei’s Ultimate. Sylosa has also been very vocal when it comes to players never “trickling in” on an objective in Competitive Mode. This is when, instead of dying and waiting for your team, players  rush into the objective alone and are usually completely outnumbered by the opponents team.

4. Sylosa has a Weekly ‘Overwatch’ Podcast Called OverChat

Every Saturday Sylosa and his friends host a weekly Overwatch themed podcast called OverChat, where they discuss any of the latest news on the game and also include an eSports segment near the end. The most prominent member of the podcast is Youtuber OneAmongstMany who has appeared in every episode so far. Other members that have joined him on OverChat include Cynical Nerds, Valkia, and Overwatch Central’s Ryan and Mysca.

The name OverChat was actually not intended to be the title of Stylosa’s podcast. Originally he hoped to have called it Overtime. However, this was taken by Overtimesportsnation.com and thus the name OverChat was born. Despite being his podcast, Stylosa clearly offers all of his guests time to discuss their thoughts on the latest changes, making his show come off as a roundtable discussion.

For those following the Overwatch eSports scene, they will know that the Overwatch World Cup teams were recently chosen. These teams are made up of community members, eSports professionals, and high-level players in each country. Then fans from each country voted for who they wanted to represent them and their respective countries. Stylosa won the votes for Team Great Britain, obtaining 45% of the votes.

Other team members include Youtube and OverChat co-star OneAmoungstMany, Team Reunited player Kruise, Team Digitas member Numlocked, WEUNITED’s Realzx, and high-level player Ekuls. Stylosa has remarked that he hopes to learn a lot of tricks from the professional players and will probably end up playing Soldier 76 in the team’s composition.
