‘Friday the 13th: The Game’: 5 Tips and Tricks for Jason

Friday the 13th: The Game allows players the ability to step into the shoes of either a camp counselor or the iconic 80s slasher Jason Voorhees. While running around as a scared teen trying to survive is amusing, playing as the masked slasher is something else entirely. Even though most versions of Jason can only walk, there is more to using this character beyond hacking at a door or grabbing someone by the neck. For those willing to practice, it’s more than possible for a skilled Jason to wipe out an entire game before the timer reaches the 10-minute mark.

Here are 5 tips and tricks to master this iconic movie villain in Friday the 13th: The Game:

1. Use Morph Frequently

One of Jason’s base abilities is called “Morph” and it allows that player to teleport anywhere on the map regardless of this location. While this is great for long distance travel, it can also be used to quickly surprised your opponent if they are trying to run away from you. This is especially useful if you’re chasing someone in a large house and they manage to break out via the window. Instead of heading out the front door, quickly face the escaping player’s direction, bring up the Morph menu, and then teleport a few yards away from the cabin you’re in.

Doing this will allow players to quickly exit a building and keep up the chase without having to possibly break into another cabin. If you get quick enough, a skilled Jason player can easily teleport right by a person trying to run without ever using their “Shift” ability.

2. Don’t Rely on Grabs

Friday The 13th The Game

In Friday the 13th: The Game the Jason player has a few key ways to kill of a counselor, but by far the most stylish are grabs. This move allows for a Jason player to pick up a counselor by the neck and then perform and instant kill move that is rather stylish. Even though this can produce some truly awe-inspiring moments, grabbing people is not always ideal. The entire animation from start to finish can take a lot of time, meaning if you’re attacking a group near a car they could easily escape before you even land the killing blow.

Instead, consider using the base R2 (PS4) / RT (Xbox One) attack on foes who are in pairs or groups for quicker kills. It may take more than one swing, but this allows you to change between targets and not commit to a single individual if it looks like they can get away. Also, don’t forget about your throwing knives as they can cause a lot of damage if you can consistently land them on opponents. Always aim for their chest or back since that will ensure you almost always hit them, even when they’re on the move.

3. Set Traps Outside of Windows

Friday the 13th: The Game

One of the very common scenario that many players will find themselves in is a cabin that has a bunch of trapped survivors in it. The issue is that Jason can only enter and exit these cabins via the doors, while the counselors can exit via any of the windows. This can be annoying since it takes around 6 swings to properly break into a cabin, so one way to ensure your prey cannot escape are bear traps. These items are given to you at the spawn and can be placed virtually anywhere on the map. Once set, any human that steps on them will instantly take a chunk of damage and be immobilized for a few seconds.

However, it’s important to remember that you only have a certain number of these items so only use them if you have trapped more than two people in a cabin. This will ensure a high chance of catching someone and make your life a whole lot easier. Also, it doesn’t hurt to leave a trap or two around a car if you know they are repairing it and trying to flee.

4. Use Vehicles as Bait

Friday the 13th: The Game

One of the surefire ways that people will do to try and escape is by repairing either a boat or a car to leave with. This is not only the easiest way for the survivors to live, but perhaps the least time-consuming. However, a smart Jason player can turn the tables on the survivors and use the cars or boat as bait for unsuspecting players. Keep an eye out for cars that have their hood down as that indicates that someone put a battery in it. If you see this then it’s a fairly safe bet that someone is trying to fix this car and will eventually return. Stay out of sight, set some traps, and wait for them to return so you can kill them before they finish fixing the car.

The boat is even more of a death trap because Jason is lightning fast int he water and can instantly knock everyone out of the boat. If you notice someone is trying to escape by the boat, hide in the water and wait for them try and escape. Once they try to leave dive into the water and bolt in front of them so you can toss them out. If you’re quick enough you can kill someone and then shake the boat again before they start the boat again.

5. Kill. The. Driver. First.

Friday the 13th: The Game

For those chasing after people in a car always make sure to go for the driver first, regardless of what’s happening. In order to immobilize a car all you need to do as Jason is walk in front of it while it’s moving. This will cause Jason to slam his fists on the hood, stalling it out until someone restarts it via the key. This is a perfect time to move around the driver’s side and yank the person out with the X (PS4) / A (Xbox One) button. One he is out, perform your quickest grapple, otherwise, a passenger might have time to run around and get in the car. If you are worried about time, just swing away at the window to kill the driver and stop the car. Always kill the driver of the car first, even if they are just trying to get in as this is the best way to ensure they don’t escape in Friday the 13th: The Game.
