Pokemon Ultra Sun & Moon Gives Early Buyers a New Pokemon

Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon Nintendo

Nintendo recently revealed a new Pokemon appearing in Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon called Dusk Form Lycanroc. This new Pokemon is a variation of the Lycanroc that appears in the original Sun and Moon but the Dusk Form will be exclusive to the new games.

However, you can’t just catch this new form of Lycanroc in the wild but instead you’ll have to evolve a different Pokemon to get it. The Pokemon you have to evolve is Rockruff but it also just isn’t any Rockruff that will evolve into Dusk Form Lycanroc. Nintendo is rewarding players who buy Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon within the first couple of months after its release the new Pokemon.

Players who purchase either of the games between November 17 and January 10 will be able to get this special Rockruff that evolves into Dusk Form Lycanroc. As of now, this appears to be the only way to get this new Pokemon. This shouldn’t be much of an issue to Pokemon diehards since you were probably picking the game up early no matter what but this may pose a problem to players who tend to wait when they purchase new games. This is best described as a pre-order bonus without actually having to pre-order.

The Pokemon website also gave us a vivid description of what to expect with Dusk Form Lycanroc and how it differs from the different forms.

The moves that Dusk Form Lycanroc can learn also seem to reflect the characteristics of both Midday and Midnight Forms. Dusk Form Lycanroc learns both Accelerock and Counter—moves favored by Midday Form and Midnight Form Lycanroc, respectively.

Accelerock is a Rock-type physical move that always goes first. In Pokémon Sunand Pokémon Moon, only Midday Form Lycanroc could learn this move. Midday Form could learn this move when it evolved from Rockruff. Counter is a Fighting-type move that inflicts double the damage received by an opponent’s physical attack. In Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, Midnight Form Lycanroc learned this move when it evolved from Rockruff.

Dusk Form Lycanroc has the Ability Tough Claws, a different Ability than either Midday Form or Midnight Form. Tough Claws greatly increases the power of moves that make direct contact. A Dusk Form Lycanroc with this Ability would likely favor a different style of battle than Midday Form or Midnight Form.

Earlier this year, players were able to pick up Midnight Form Lycanroc at participating GameStops as part of the Mystery Gift giveaways. Starting August 14 GameStop will begin a Salazzle giveaway and you can also pick up four new Mega Stones via the Mystery Gift today.
