The Elder Scrolls: Legends: Top 10 Tips & Cheats You Need to Know

6. Choose Your Avatar Wisely

The Elder Scrolls Legends

Bethesda Softworks

• Your Avatar matters. As you level up, you’ll gain extra cards based on the race of your avatar. Note that each avatar archetype is tied to a particular colored deck alignment. After choosing your avatar, you’ll be forbidden from utilizing any cards from opposing decks. Once you hit levels 24 and 32 with your chosen avatar, you’ll be gifted with a legendary card for your continued efforts. The avatars you’ll be able to choose from are the Argonians, Bretons, Dark Elves, High Elves, Imperials, Khajiits, Nords, Orcs, Redgaruds and Wood Elves. The deck alignment colors include green (cards focused on agility, speed and flexibility), purple (cards that are tied to endurance and an increase in your magicka supply), blue (cards powered by intelligence that send out magic spells and monsters), red (strong cards that dish out plenty of damage) and yellow (cards tied to willpower that endear themselves to more defense focused players). Check out the list below to see which colored deck alignments each avatar are tied to and what cards they can’t obtain:

– Argonians tend to use green and purple attribute cards; they can’t use cards from the Redguard, Nord or High Elf decks

– Bretons tend to use blue and purple attributedurance cards; they can’t use cards from the Wood Elf, Nord or Khajiit decks

– Dark Elves tend to use green and blue attribute cards; they can’t use cards from the Nord, Orc or Imperial decks

– High Elves tend to use blue and yellow attribute cards; they can’t use cards from the Wood Elf, Orc or Argonian decks

– Imperials tend to use yellow and purple attribute cards; they can’t use cards from the Wood Elf, Redguard or Dark Elf decks

– Khajiits tend to use green and yellow attribute cards; they can’t use cards from the Redguard, Orc or Breton decks

– Nords tend to use red and yellow attribute cards; they can’t use cards from the Dark Elf, Argonian or Breton decks

– Orcs tend to use red and purple attribute cards; they can’t use cards from the Dark Elf, Khajiit or High Elf decks

– Redgaruds tend to use red and blue attribute cards; they can’t use cards from the Khajiit, Argonian or Imperial decks

– Wood Elves tend to use red and green attribute cards; they can’t use cards from the High Elf, Breton or Imperial decks

7. Tournaments

• Weekly tournaments are a great way to earn gold and cards. But with great reward comes risk – tournaments attract some of the most competitive Legends players, so come prepared with a proven deck and an event ticket for entry.

8. Keywords!

The Elder Scrolls Legends

Bethesda Softworks

• Each card is also tied to one more attribute known as Keywords. These special abilities grant additional boosts for the cards they’re attached to. Check out the full description of each card ability in the list below (the good folks at Modojo.com put this together):

– Breakthrough is an attack ability that deals damage in excess of a card’s defense value to the opponent

– Charge allows cards to attack on the same turn in which they’re drawn

– Drain allows a card to be healed every time a creature deals damage in an amount equal to the damage dealt

– Guard is an ability that disallows players from attacking any other card in the lane

– Last Gasp cards perform an action when they are destroyed, which includes several various effects

– Lethal is an ability that allows a card to destroy any card that receives damage from it

– Pilfer cards enact certain abilities any time they deal damage to enemy cards, either by drawing an additional card or gaining one point to attack or defense

– Prophecy cards can be played immediately any time one of the player’s runes are broken

– Regenerate is an ability that heals cards at the beginning of each round

– Shackle is an ability that prevents enemy cards from attacking for one turn

– Summon cards are able to draw upon other cards from a player’s deck, be it drawing additional creature cards, drawing more cards into the player’s hand, or causing damage

– Ward cards are able to ignore the first incoming attack they receive

9. Runes

The Elder Scrolls Legends

Bethesda Softworks

• Runes can be a lifesaver even when it looks like you’re near the end of a struggle. They happen to be represented by the five blue icons that encircle your avatar. Runes do the job of instantly drawing a card from one of them every time your health is reduced to a multiple a five for the first time (25, 20, 15, 10 and 5). If that drawn card happens to be tied to the Prophecy Keyword, you can actually put it into play during your foe’s turn. And don’t worry – the magicka cost requirement is simply zero.

10. Lanes

The Elder Scrolls Legends

Bethesda Softworks

• One of the most important sections of the battle board are lanes. Every standard play area has the Clear lane (left) and Shadow lane (right). The left lane pretty much has no cover for any monster placed there, which leaves them wide open for an immediate attack from your opponent’s cards. However, monsters placed in the Shadow lane are provided with some form of protection. They can’t immediately be attacked by your rival’s deck until the next turn activates. Try not to give your Shadow lane cards’ presence right away. Refrain from immediately attacking your foe with a drawn card placed onto the Shadow lane (this rule applies to cards tied to the Charge Keyword). Try and make sure both of your lanes are properly balanced thanks to the cards placed within them. Be aware that there are special lanes featured during the story campaign and within the Arena, such as:

Hall of Mirrors: any monster that’s played here will be joined by a clone if no other creatures are currently in the lane

Campfire: any monsters summoned here will provide any Keywords to their allies placed on the same lane

Warzone: monsters who get placed onto this lane end up immediately dishing out one point of damage to the opponent

Graveyard: monsters that are vanquished here come back from the dead and play as zombies
