The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Explorer’s Edition: Here’s What You’ll Get

The Legend of Zelda, Breath of the Wild

Nintendo is offering a few incentives for prospective Nintendo Switch buyers this holiday season. In time for Black Friday 2017, Nintendo is unveiling a new edition of the critically acclaimed The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild called the Explorer’s Edition. For those of you out there who own a Switch and haven’t picked up Zelda somehow, this one will be hard to pass up. It might even be hard to pass up if you do own Zelda already.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Explorer’s Edition will come with the following items:

  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild base game
  • 100-page explorer’s guide
  • Two-sided map of Hyrule

To top it all off, this bundle will be available for the suggested retail price of $59.99. With the price point matching the price of the game itself, this bundle will be hard to pass up for anyone who doesn’t own the game. It isn’t entirely clear if the 100-page explorer’s guide will be available as a standalone item or not. Effectively, you’re getting a guide book and a map for free with purchase of the game.

It’s possible this version will be limited in supply since it retails at the same price as the game does. There’s no reason to not pick up this edition so either it replaces the old version or it will only be available in limited quantities.

What you won’t be getting with this pack is the Expansion Pass for Breath of the Wild. The Expansion Pass includes two add-ons that will extend your play time for this new adventure significantly. The first DLC is already out and it included a variety of quality of life additions and added in a new Trail of the Sword challenge. Completing this challenge will permanently strengthen your Master Sword.

The second DLC, called The Champion’s Ballad, is due out before the end of the year so we only have a month or two to go for that release. The DLC is not available as a standalone purchase but you instead have to purchase the Expansion Pass for $20. It is set to be the last DLC released for Breath of the Wild, unless Nintendo has another trick of its sleeve. The DLC is available for both the Wii U and Nintendo Switch versions of the game.

To go with the release of the final DLC, Nintendo unveiled a new line of Breath of the Wild amiibo that will allow players to have the four champions from the game in amiibo form.

Unfortunately this Explorer’s Edition is only available for the Nintendo Switch so if you haven’t upgraded from the Wii U yet, you’re out of luck. This is good incentive to make the jump from the Wii U, though. The Wii U version has already missed out on the latest update that added the Tips of the Wild feature.
