Nintendo announced that the Pokeball Plus can be used with Pokemon Sword & Shield during their E3 Nintendo Direct.
The Pokeball Plus will allow you to bring a Pokemon from Pokemon Sword & Shield onto the device. You’ll be able to earn different rewards for taking a Pokemon on a stroll.
The Pokemon Twitter account announced that you’ll be able to transfer Mew to Pokemon Sword & Shield if you link a new Pokeball Plus to the game. We assume that if you already transferred a Mew to Pokemon: Let’s Go Pikachu & Eevee, then you can’t transfer another one to Sword & Shield.
We assume that it will work similarly to how it worked when the device was introduced along with Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu & Eevee. The Pokeball Plus is expected to make sounds based on the cry of your Pokemon and let them level up as you walk. However, unlike with Pokemon Let’s Go, you cannot use the Pokeball Plus as a controller.
Update (September 15, 2019): Now that Sword & Shield has released, we can confirm that you cannot obtain a Mew for Pokemon Sword & Shield if you already transferred one from a Pokeball Plus to Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu/Eevee. For our full guide, click here.
The presentation also introduced Nessa, the water-type Gym Leader.
The Pokemon Direct earlier this month introduced a number of new characters, Pokemon and game mechanics. The Dynamax feature lets your Pokemon grow to gigantic sizes and gives them enhanced power and attacks for three turns once per battle. You can also explore wide open areas called Wild Areas and take on Raids with other players where you fight .
The Nintendo Treehouse livestream showed that the player can whistle to get the attention of Pokemon in the Wild Area. For instance, Pokemon flying high in the air will come down to you. Pokemon levels vary in the Wild Area with some Pokemon in certain areas being stronger than the player’s Pokemon. The bicycle can dash with a press of a B button and can transform to get across bodies of water. Shiny areas on the ground indicate items and they change every time you enter the Wild Area. Other players can join you in the Wild Area through local and online connectivity. Players can post icons to other players that show up on the left side of the screen indicating if they caught a Pokemon or if they want to trade.
All players will get a chance to catch the Dynamax Pokemon in the Raid Battle, according to the livestream. Even if players don’t catch the Pokemon, they’ll still get rewards. You can only transfer Pokemon from Pokemon Home to Pokemon Sword & Shield only if they appear in the Galar Region Pokedex. This was done out of concern for the balance of the game.
