San Francisco Giants 2023-Present (4 seasons)

Spencer Bivens: Breaking News

Relegated to Sacramento

The Giants optioned Bivens to Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Bivens logged a 4.00 ERA and 1.33 WHIP over 81 innings last year while spending the entire year with San Francisco, but he'll be sent back to Triple-A to kick off the 2026 campaign. The 31-year-old boasts a 3.68 ERA in his MLB career and allowed just four earned runs in 10.1 Cactus League innings, so he'll likely be one of the first relievers called up whenever the Giants need a fresh bullpen arm.

Scoreless outing in spring loss

Bivens allowed two hits in one scoreless inning during Thursday's 11-3 Cactus League loss to the Rockies. Bivens escaped the third inning without allowing a run after surrendering a pair of singles. He tossed 10 of his 11 pitches for strikes and primarily relied on his sinker, which he threw five times. The 31-year-old is likely to make the Opening Day roster in a relief role after spending all of last season in the majors with San Francisco. Over 54 relief appearances in 2025, the right-hander posted a 4.00 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 61:25 K:BB across 81 innings.

Earns two-inning save

Bivens earned the save in Sunday's 4-0 win over the Rockies, issuing one walk while striking out three across two scoreless innings. Bivens will finish the year with three saves, two of which came in the final two games. The 31-year-old right-hander pitched 81 innings for the Giants this season, working to a 4.00 ERA with a 1.33 WHIP and 61:25 K:BB.
