Roger Huerta vs. Eddie Alvarez: Set for Main Event at Bellator 33

Roger Huerta Fighting Clay Guida

Bellator Fighting Championship’s next super fight is official.

Bellator’s Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez is set to take on former UFC fighter and two-fight Bellator veteran Roger Huerta in a non-title fight.

Roger Huerta and Pat Curran

The promotion made the bout official for Bellator 33.

Pat Curran, winner of last season’s lightweight tournament which aired on FOX Sports Net, could not face off for the lightweight title opposite Eddie Alvarez due to injury, making the choice to pit Bellator‘s number one draw up against the champion.

Roger Huerta lost to Curran in the semi-finals of the lightweight tournament in one of the biggest upsets from this past season.

Since winning the title at Bellator 12 against Toby Imada in 2009, Eddie Alvarez has yet to defend his belt, however, he is on a five-fight winning streak and is punching through the competition. He is 4-0 with the promotion with all wins coming via stoppage. This will be his third consecutive non-title fight, as he waits for Curran to recover from an injury.

Bellator 33 will take place in Kansas City, Missouri on October 21st.

Huerta vs. Alvarez will be the evening’s main event fight. No other fights have been announced for the Bellator 33 fight card, which will be broadcast live on FOX Sports Net.
