Dana White Discusses Jeremy Stephens Arrest Last Friday

UFC president Dana White was adamant that Jeremy Stephens would fight this past Friday at “UFC on FX 5.”

The card featured several stellar come-from-behind knockouts, a first round finish in the main event, and the emergence of a flyweight contender. But Mr. Stephens was nowhere to be found.

Well, he could be found in one place in particular; the lightweight was held in the Hennepin County corrections facility long enough for “Lil’ Heathen” to miss his fight against Yves Edwards entirely.

In fact, according to MMAjunkie.com, Stephens was still in custody this morning, a full three days after the initial arrest.

So what went wrong? Why did White insist that Stephens would be throwing punches on Friday night, when instead the 13-fight UFC veteran was locked away in a cell?

According to the UFC president, several deals were struck on Friday afternoon, but the folks down in Des Moines, Iowa changed the terms after White accepted the original ones.

White has more specifics in the above video.

Meanwhile, the arrest stems from an incident from last year in which Stephens was somehow involved. According to his management, Stephens was attending a homecoming party in Des Moines when an intoxicated individual got in an altercation with another.

There was no word as to whether or not that second individual was, in fact, Stephens, only that the UFC lightweight was a featured guest at the party.
