Brenneman, Hendricks Verbally Agree To UFC 117 Bout

A welterweight match between fast-rising prospects Charlie Brenneman and Johny Hendricks is reportedly in the works. MMAjunkie.com has learned from sources close to the fighters that each have agreed to the fight and the paperwork will be taken care of shortly. The fight is set to take place on the UFC’s August 7 card, UFC 117, which is anticipated to take place in Oakland, California.

Pennsylvania native Brenneman made his UFC debut on March 31 at “Ultimate Fight Night: Florian vs. Gomi” opposite Jason High on the evening’s preliminary card. Brenneman picked up the unanimous decision victory, building his winning streak to six consecutive victories. He has only one loss on his professional record, dropping a unanimous decision to John Howard at “Ring of Combat 21” in September of 2008.

Hendricks, a fellow up-and-comer in the UFC’s 170-pound division, made waves in the promotion right off the bat with a technical knockout victory against Amir Sadollah in his UFC debut. He followed the victory with consecutive decision wins, with the most recent coming at UFC 113 against TJ Grant in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Hendricks was unhappy with his performance, stating that his weight cut may have played a considerably negative role in the fight.

UFC 117 is expected to take place in Oakland, California on August 7. The event is anticipated to feature a middleweight championship affair between top contender Chael Sonnen and the 185-pound champion Anderson Silva. Other match ups rumored for the card include a heavyweight bout between Juniro dos Santos and Roy Nelson, along with a long-awaited welterweight rematch between Jon Fitch and Thiago Alves.
