UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar and interim champion Shane Carwin now have an official supporting cast for the card featuring their heavyweight clash.
The Ultimate Fight Championship confirmed today the 10 other bouts that make up both the preliminary and the main card for the UFC 116 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The list of bouts announced today is headlined by the expected match up between former PRIDE superstar Wanderlei Silva and Japanese star Yoshihiro Akiyama. The main card is also set to feature a lightweight bout between top grapplers George Sotiropoulous and Kurt Pellegrino. Rounding out the pay-per-view broadcast are match ups between Stephan Bonnar and Krzysztof Soszynski, and Matt Brown and Chris Lytle.
Making up the preliminary card is a heavyweight match up between Lesnar’s training partner Chris Tuchscherer and “The Ultimate Fighter 10” finalist Brendan Schaub, along with a middleweight contest between Kendall Grove and Goran Reljic. Seth Petruzelli vs. Ricardo Romero, Dave Branch vs. Gerald Harris, Daniel Roberts vs. Forrest Petz, and Karlos Vemola vs. Jon Madsen are the four other match ups making up the evening’s preliminary action.
UFC 116 is set to serve as the promotion’s annual Fourth of July weekend show. The event will go live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 3 and features the heavyweight battle between Lesnar and Carwin, one of the most highly-anticipated heavyweight match ups in the history of the promotion.
