Yet another bout has been added to October’s UFC 121 card.
Heavyweights Gabriel Gonzaga and Brendan Schaub have agreed to meet on the Oct. 23 card in Anaheim. Sportsnet.ca first reported the bout on Thursday afternoon, and Heavy.com has since confirmed the contest with sources close to the event.
Gonzaga last appeared in the Octagon during a loss to Junior dos Santos at UFC on Versus 1 in March.
Schaub, a veteran of the 10th season of The Ultimate Fighter, made his official UFC debut against Roy Nelson in the finals of the reality show. He lost that bout via knockout, but has since earned two straight TKO victories. The former University of Colorado football star defeated Chase Gormley at UFC on Versus 1, then followed that with a quick destruction of Chris Tuchscherer at UFC 116.
UFC 121 is headlined by a heavyweight title clash between Brock Lesnar and Cain Velasquez. The co-main event will see Jake Shields make his UFC debut against Martin Kampmann, while Tito Ortiz takes on Matt Hamill in another featured fight.
